In Charlotte, we celebrated the opening of Whole Foods, but we’re pretty lucky. We have an assortment of high and low end grocery stores to choose from. Publix will soon compete with Harris Teeter. Our biggest complaint is that our favorite grocery store isn’t in our neighborhood. Be thankful. The city of Detroit, a city of nearly million residents, is getting its first grocery store in 10 years. Yep. Ten years. In 2003, Detroit watched its last mainstream grocer, Farmer Jack, close its doors for good. Since then, many Detroit residents traveled to surrounding cities to purchase fresh produce, while others were left with making due at the closest convenience store.
