The Detroit Tigers have signed Goochland native and former ODU star Justin Verlander to the richest contract for a pitcher in baseball history, valued at some $180 million.  The free agent from Manakkin has won the American League Most Valuable Player award and a coveted Cy Young award as well, and despite having the leverage to hold out for more promising offers, Verlander decided there would be no better offer than the biggest deal ever.  He thanked the fans in Detroit for their support, which began from the moment the Tigers drafted him in 2006.  He starts tonight in Minnesota as the Tigers open the Major League Baseball season fpr 2013 this evening.
