It’s a rare treat when two schools so close in proximity get to play for the title of best in all of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The VHSL’s Group AAA State Championship may not have been the thriller everyone hoped for, but, it’s been a lot of fun for the local fans here in the Capital City of Richmond, VA astwo neighboring schools, Henrico  & John Marshall, which are located approximately one mile apart, met for the state title Friday night at the VCU Siegal Center.

Henrico defeated  Jayem to win their first-ever state title in the 52-tear history of the school.  The Warriors are coached by Vance Harmon, who led Henrico back to the state tournament after falling to then top-ranked Petersburg last year in the very same building.  The state champs finish the season at 30 – 2 after defeating John Marshall again following the Central Region meeting.  Henrico HS is a virtual stone’s throw away around the corner on Azalea Avenue, just off of Chamberlayne Ave.

Congratulations to the coaches, the players, and the students at both schools, and to the parents who supported them in this great Richmond moment in sports. We salute the 2013 Virginia AAA State Champions, the Henrico Warriors!
