With the excitement of March Madness just a few weeks away, the VCU Rams continue to roll following a big road win on Saturday at Charlotte. The win improves the the Rams to 19 – 5 in their first season as Atlantic-10 members, and despite the change of landscape, VCU has remained a strong foe for any opponent and remain tied for first place in the A-10 with 11th-ranked Butler. The Rams will entertain UMass on Thursday night at the Siegal Center. The University of Richmond is in Philadelphia to take on St. Joe’s tonight.

In the CIAA, Virginia State had suffered 11 straight years of defeat to arch-rival Virginia Union before the Trojans big win in January’s Freedom Classic, but the Panthers went on to win the rematch Saturday night at VCU, locking Union into a tie for second place in the CIAA Northern Division. Union will host Bowie State tonight, while VSU visits Chowan. The CIAA Tournament opens on February 26th in Charlotte, NC, and the Panthers are right in the thick of the race for the division title.

The Spartans of Norfolk State University continue to run rampant through the MEAC, going 11 – 0 in the league following a Monday night romp over Maryland-Eastern Shore. The Spartans have won ten straight games to improve to 16 – 10. Hampton University also on a slight win streak after a home win Monday over Delaware State. The Pirates have won four in a row as the MEAC Tournament nears, this year being played in Norfolk at the Scope.
