Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo inacted one of the toughest gun laws in nation history.  Governor Cuomo signed the SAFE Act last week with semiautomatic weapons regulations and purchases, background checks, and gun registry.

From the Desk of Governor Andrew Cuomo on the Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE):

Under the legislation, New York will be the first state in the nation to ban any magazine that can hold more than seven rounds and run instant background checks on all ammunition purchases at the time of sale. The legislation will allow authorities to track ammunition purchases in real time to alert law enforcement to high volume buys, and will include a statewide standard requiring recertification of pistol permits every five years. The legislation also closes a private sale loophole to ensure all gun purchases are subject to a background check, and toughens criminal penalties on those who use illegal guns.

This week, according to the “New York Post” a mass boycott is being organized by gun owners as a refusal to register their weapons under the state’s new SAFE law. Under the law, owners of semiautomatic rifles must register them by April 2014. There are at least one million semiautomatic rifles owned in New York. Gun rights advocates are telling hundreds of thousands of gun owners in the state to not bother registering in an act of civil disobedience.
