Timothy Michael Kaine was born on February 26, 1958. During his time in office, Kaine has held multiple positions. They include, the 76th Mayor of Virginia (1988-2000), the 38th Lieutenant Governor of Virginia (2002 –2006), the 51st Chairman of the Democratic National Committee ( 2009 –2011) and the 70th Governor of Virginia (2006-2010).

During Kaine’s term for Mayor of Richmond, the city experienced tax cuts, reduction in crime rate, and the construction of new schools. Richmond also gained a spot in Forbes Magazine for top 10 cities in America to do business.

           Tim Kaine has a proven track record of working across the aisle.  U.S. Senator-elect Tim Kaine said during our interviews on Community Conversations “you might be a proud democrat or republican but I have a proven track record to working together. I did it as mayor and as governor. I will partner with my Senate colleagues, whatever the party they represent. I must listen, find common ground and move forward.”

Tim Kaine goes on to explain that as  Lt. governor and governor, he worked with two republican controlled houses and together won the award for “best manage state, “best state for business” and the “best state to raise a child.”  Kaine said ” we knew how to work together regardless of the party.”

Today, Senator-elect Tim Kaine will take part in the Official Swearing-in of Senators, 12 p.m., in Senate Chambers, U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

Today, the Ceremonial swearing-in of Senator-elect Kaine by Vice President Joe Biden will take place at approximately 2:15 p.m., in the Old Senate Chamber, U.S. Capitol, Washington, D.C.

From Richmond City Mayor to U.S. Senator in the 113th Congress, Senator-elect Kaine will be joined by his parents, friends and Virginians for a reception this afternoon. During our interview today, Kaine said ‘thank you Virginia for your support of my 18 years in public life.” Kaine has lived in Northside Richmond for 20 years and loves his neighborhood.
