“Can we truly say as a nation that we’re meeting our obligations? Can we honestly say that we’re doing enough to keep our children all of them safe from harm. Can we claim as a nation that we’re altogether there, letting them know that they’re loved and teaching them to love in return?”

Obama answered his own questions saying no, that we are not doing enough to protect our children. He said it was time to put politics aside. He vowed to use the power of the presidency to help prevent these types of tragedies from happening again. Obama said it was time to stop letting excuses prevent us from keeping our children safer.

“We can’t tolerate this anymore,” Obama said. “These tragedies must end. To end them we must change. We can’t accept events like this as routine.”
