The “Washington Post” reports that retired four-star general David Petraeus and director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) wanted to keep his extramarital affair a secret.  A pair of longtime military aides released pertinent information about Petraeus’ affair to the “post”.  The pair said Petraeus did not intend to step down from his post as head of the CIA until it became clear the affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell would be made public.

The Post also reports that some of his closest advisers who had served with him during his final command in Iraq, said Monday Petraeus had intended to keep his CIA director’s job even after he had acknowledged having the affair with Broadwell to the FBI.
