The weekend was not kind to any of Virginia’s HBCUs, unless you count Hampton being idle,  therefore removing the possibility of  losing as a successful weekend. The three teams in action were on the road Saturday with the Spartans of Norfolk State University traveling to Athens, Ohio to take on Ohio University. The Bobcats routed NSU 44 – 10, the Spartans second straight loss and they return to MEAC action next Saturday in Orangeburg, SC vs South Carolina State.

In the CIAA, both Virginia State and Virginia Union Universities were plaing in North Carolina on Saturday. The Panthers certainly had the toughest assignment in facing the defending CIAA champions, the Rams of Winston-Salem State, who crushed Union 35 – 6, handing VUU their second straight loss. Meanwhile, Virginia State went into Charlotte hoping to get a win against Johnsoin C. Smith Univerdity, but the Golden Bulls had other ideas, running off to a 21 – 0 lead and holding the Trojans off late in the fourth quarter. VSU falls to 1 – 3 with Shaw University visiting Rogers Stadium this weekend. Va. Union also plays at home this Saturday against Lincoln University. Both games kick-off at 1 pm.
