Former NFL star Chad Johnson (formerly Ochocinco) has officiall been charged in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on domestic battery charges stemming from an incident with his estranged wife Evelyn Lozada, who is one pf the “Basketball Wives” cast members. The couple had been married barely a month when the incident occured, in which Lozada accused Johnson of head-butting her during an argument. While the charge is a misdemeanor, Johnson still faces a year in jail if convicted.
The Broward County state attorney filed the charge on Wednesday, and Johnson was scheduled to be arraigned today at a hearing in which he intends to enter a not guilty plea. Johnson, who starred with the Cincinatti Bengals for years before leaving for New England. His stay with the Patriots was brief as Johnson struggled with playbook issues and had a disappointing year. He tried to link up with the Miami Dolphins this preseason but was cut prior to the 2012 season.
