Taraji Penda Henson is an actress and singer hailing from Washington, D.C.  She graduated from Howard University with a Theater Arts degree. Henson is best known for her role as Yvette in Baby Boy (2001), Shug in Hustle and Flow (2005), and Queenie in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), where she was nominated for an Academy Award  for Best Supporting Actress in 2009. Taraji Henson made her singing debut  in Hustle and Flow by lending her vocals to Three 6 Mafia’s track “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp”. The song won an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2006 becoming the first African American hip-hop artists to win in that category. Henson also performed the song live at the Oscars on March 5, 2006 with the group.

Henson is an accomplished actress with several acting awards, songtress and now supporter for the re-election of President Barack Obama. During my interview with Henson, she said “I’m a little nervous of where we are, this fork in the road. If he does not get four years to finish what he started then we are in trouble.”
