Legendary guitarist/singer Chuck Brown, affectionately called “The Godfather of Go-go” has died Wednesday at age 75, his daughter confirmed to ABC’s Washington DC affiliate.

Chuck Brown’s passing comes about a week after the Washington Post confirmed that the musician, considered the pioneer of Go-Go music, had been hospitalized with pneumonia.

Brown had recently postponed numerous shows due to his failing health.

Brown is best known for his 1970 song, “Bustin’ Loose,” which reached #1 on the MCA charts. “Bustin’ Loose” has been adopted by the Washington Nationals baseball team as its home run celebration song and was sampled in the 2002 Nelly song, “Hot in Herre.”

Go-go is a subgenre of funk music developed in and around Washington, D.C. in the mid- and late 1970s. While its musical classification, influences, and origins are debated, Brown is regarded as the fundamental force behind the creation of go-go music.

More details to come as this story develops.
