Labron James was expected to be great, and although he’s still chasing the championship dream, he has stepped into an elite level among basketball icons.  Only seven men have won three Most Valuable Player awards in the NBA, and one of them hails from right here in Central Virginia, Moses Malone of Petersburg.  LaBron joins Big Moe, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, and the greatest to ever lace ’em up, His Airness, Michael Jordan.

James’ selection was officially announced by the NBA on Saturday, and he was awarded his trophy on Sunday prior to Miami’s game with the Indiana Pacers.  Yeah, just what Indiana needed, right?   LaBron went out and stepped up his game afterward to lead the Heat to a win in Game 1 of that series.   He averaged 27 points, 7 rebounds, and six assists per game this season……enough said.  Those are MVP statistics.  Although the championship trophy has alluded James so far, many feel that this could be the year for LaBron.
