As a big fan of New Edition myself, it was pretty easy to get into how the other 5,000 fans were feeling at the Richmond Coliseum on Saturday night as the 6-man super-group displayed just how multi-talented the members really are. First, when the guys hit the stage, there were only 5 of them, which sent everybody to their phones tweeting Bobby Brown was a no-show. Certainly, Bobby’s late arrival is part of the show, and judging from the reception he got, it worked.

All six looked great, and left it all on the stage, belting out Bell-Biv-Devoe hits, Johnny Gill serenaded the ladies, giving them exactly what they came for, Ricky Bell and Ralph Tresvant still sounds great. Bobby. Well, Bobby is Bobby. His chops may not be quite as strong as back in the day, but like many stars, his greatness overwhelmed us years ago, and he will forever get a pass with the real New Edition fans.

Gotta give the guys credit, for all the hits they had to sing, the did full versions, no medleys, and of course, it was Bobby’s “Don’t Be Cruel”, Johnny’s “My, My, My”, and BBD’s “Poison” that set the place on fire. Bobby thanked Richmond fans for their continued support, and for their prayers during the loss of his ex-wife Whitney Houston, and his own family members as well. Great show, brought back lots of memories, and it’s hard to believe these guys have ben out there for 30 years. Wow…..
