After recovering from her recent double mastectomy, Giuliana Rancic has opened up about her diagnosis and hopes for a baby in the future.
Giuliana, an E! News personality, and her husband Bill Rancic’s Style Network reality series “Giuliana & Bill” returned for a fifth season on April 3 and showed the couple receiving the breast cancer diagnosis.
“The second I heard the ‘cancer,’ I just remember my head went down, the ground went away and I just dropped through the earth, and I was just dropping, falling,” Rancic said on the reality series. “Everything you expect that conversation is going to be like – it’s a hundred times worse, maybe a million times worse, because those are the words you never want to hear.”
“As a husband you never want to see your wife suffer,” Bill said. “You never want to see your wife go through pain. Our job is making everything okay.”
Rancic felt betrayed by her own body following the diagnosis and said that she had a “hate relationship” with her breasts. This became clear as she tugged at the gown she wore to the 2011 Emmy Awards.
“I’d be about to interview someone and I’d notice they’d see me pulling at my dress and [wonder] if they were looking at my boobs,” Rancic said in a clip for her reality series. “It went from ‘I think I’m showing too much cleavage’ to ‘Cover these damn things up… I felt like my body let me down.”
Rancic discovered the cancer when she and Bill went in to discuss a third IVF fertilization treatment. With everything they’ve gone through, the couple said that they are still determined to have a child.
Rancic says that the new season of “Giuliana & Bill” will definitely continue the baby discussion, “hopefully this is our year.” Bill agreed, adding, “Fingers crossed.”
Giuliana Rancic underwent her double mastectomy on December 13. She announced she was going to have the procedure on December 5, 2011.
Giuliana DePandi married Bill Rancic, the winner of the 1st season of “The Apprentice,” in 2007. The couple launched their own reality show, “Giuliana & Bill” in 2009.
