One day after NBA player Kobe Bryant and his wife Vanessa announced their divorce… NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders announced he was filing for divorce from his wife, Pilar, after 12 years.

In an official statement, Deion said:

To My Friends and Family,

Pilar and I have decided to end our marriage and move on to the next phase of our individual lives with mutual respect. We are friends and our top priority has and will continue to be the well-being of our children. We arrived at this decision prayerfully and carefully in order to be able to pursue what is in both of our best personal interests. Neither Pilar or I will be discussing this any further and thank you in advance for respecting the privacy of our family. Truth.

In September, rumors that the Sanders marriage was on the rocks began circulating. Deion vehemently denied the claims. Then allegations surfaced that he was ‘cheating’ with another woman. Deion claimed the accusations of infidelity ‘a failed extortion attempt.’

One week later, Sanders admitted he and his wife had discussed separating, but not divorce, “It’s not one isolated incident. Sometimes you just grow apart.” He said, they were trying to figure out ‘what is best for their future, their lives, and their kids.’

Deion and Pilar Sanders once starred in their own reality show on the Oxygen Network called “Deion and Pilar: Prime Time Love”, which followed their everyday family life in Texas. Pilar later gained popularity after joining the cast of VH1’s “Football Wives” and is respected for her philanthropic work.

Deion married fashion model Pilar Biggers in 1999 – they have 3 children together.

Sanders was previously married to Carolyn Chambers, with whom he had two children.
