Late R&B singer Teena Marie, well known for her 1980s hits including, “Lovergirl,” “Ooo La La La” and “Square Biz” has left her mark on fans and the music industry.

On Saturday, March 3 at 10pm, Centric will premiere their documentary special “Being Teena Marie.” The documentary will examine Marie’s stellar achievements and battles over her decades long music career. The documentary special will also focus on her rise to stardom from simple beginnings.

Centric’s special will consist of never-before seen clips from “The Hippest Trip in America, The Soul Train Story” documentary was never broadcast. In that footage, Teena reminisces about growing up in Venice, CA, performing on Soul Train, being a star, and her friendship with singer Rick James.

“Being Teena Marie” will also include personal accounts of Marie from her daughter Alia Rose, as well as celebrity friends and music industry colleagues including Lalah Hathaway, Faith Evans, Smokey Robinson, and more.
