Today is “Super Tuesday” in 10 states including Virginia. There are 400 delegates at stake today. However, the voter turnout is expected to be lite in Virginia as GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney and Ron Paul will only appear on the ballot.

With the GOP primaries in Virginia, political analysts are evaluating and predicting the direction Virginia will go in the national race. With 49 delegates in Virginia up for grabs, there are several factors to take into account going into the primaries.

GOP candidates Ron Paul and Mitt Romney will be the only candidates on the ballot here in Va, as the other major candidates were disqualified for technicalities and regulations.  Current stats from previous primaries around the country indicate Mitt Romney will take the state of Virginia having won six primaries thus far.

In Virginia’s upcoming Senate race, Democratic candidate Tim Kaine holds about an 9-point lead over Republican candidate George Allen.  According to the new NBC News/Marist Poll released Sunday, Kaine stands at 48 percent with Allen standing at 39 percent. The poll found Allen to be more favorable among Independents and men, while the two candidates are tied among Virginia women.  The Christopher Newport University and Quinnipiac University surveys indicate the margin of difference Kaine has over Allen as much smaller.

From a national perspective, polls indicate that the approval rates for President Obama have fallen just below 50 percent.  Voters in Va. also indicate that President Obama and Mitt Romney are neck and neck for the presidential rate, with President Obama(47 percent) holding a slight edge over Romney(43 percent).  Virginia’s primaries held next Tuesday will play a major roll in determining whether Romney is able to secure the lead.
