They were the 2012 Central Region Basketball Tournament champions, the state’s top-ranked team, and the Petersburg Crimson Wave survived the quarter-final and semi-final rounds to compete for the VHSL AAA State Championship on Friday Night at VCU’s Siegal Center. Apparently no one informer the Hampton Crabbers of the Wave’s lofty status as they were all business in defeating Petersburg 64-51 in the title game. Hampton opened the game with a three-pointer and never looked back. For Petersburg, the mission continues as the Wave seeks its first state title since Moses Malone & Company ran the table twice in the 70’s. In . So it’s all said and done, we applaud the kids from Hampton High, the VHSL AAA State Champions. Congratulations to Petersburg, Amelia, Charles City, Henrico, and the girls from Highland Springs on fantastic seasons.
