(Charlottesville, VA) A jury found former University of Virginia lacrosse player George Huguely guilty of 2nd degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, as well as, grand larceny.

Huguely, 24, of Chevy Chase, Maryland was accused of killing Yeardley Love, a lacrosse player on May 3, 2010. Love died from blunt-force trauma to the head. Huguely was aquitted of 1st degree murder and felony murder. He was also acquitted on charges of robbery, burglary, and breaking and entering. Huguely had stolen Love’s computer.

Yeardly Love was founded bloodied, beaten and bruised in her apartment during the early morning hours of May 3, 2010. Huguely had gone to Love’s apartment to confront her about a relationship she had had with a North Carolina lacrosse player. He kicked in her bedroom door and the confrontation became physical.

The jury on the case recommends that George Huguely spend 26 years in prison for the murder of Yeardly Love. The punishment is ultimately up to the judge and sentencing is scheduled for April.
