The CNN town hall debate on Thursday night in Charleston, SC was the last debate before the South Carolina primary on Saturday. GOP candidate Rick Santorum had a good showing but trails very far in the polls. Mitt Romney was booed after he fumbled over the question of releasing his tax statements. Romney said he would release multiple years maybe.

And the opening question of the evening by John King, Newt Gingrich “if he wanted to respond to allegations made by his second wife that he wanted an open marriage”

“No”, Gingrich looked at the audience and said “but I will”.

“The destructive, vicious, negative nature of much of the news media makes it harder to govern this country, harder to attract decent people to run for public office. And I am appalled that you would begin a presidential debate on a topic like that” said Gingrich. He received applause and a standing ovation.

Newt Gingrich said the allegations of him asking his ex-wife Marianne for an “open marriage” are absolutely false.

Marianne Gingrich told ABC Nightline host Brian Ross that Newt wanted her to agree to an open marriage with then mistress Callista. Callista is now married to Newt.

Newt Gingrich is gaining momentum following Thursday night’s debate. Gingrich is going into the South Carolina primary with 35% to Romney’s 29%.

Rick Perry dropped out of the GOP presidential race Thursday and is now endorsing Newt Gingrich for president.
