Happy 100th Anniversary Girl Scouts, I was a girl scout in troop #747 at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Richmond. I loved the community service projects, building character, camping and selling Girl Scout cookies.
In honor of the Girl Scouts 100th anniversary they will debut a new cookie. Scouts in the Commonwealth of Virginia and troops across the country have added the shortbread, lemony “Savannah Smile” to its traditional lineup of Samoas, Peanut Butter and Thin Mints.
The first Girl Scout Troop was organized by Juliette Gordon Low on March 12, 1912 in Savannah, Georgia. Girl Scouts USA was chartered by Congress on March 6, 1950.
There are 3.2 million girl scouts -2.3 million girl members and 880,000 adult members serving as volunteers.
Scouts honor: The Girl Scouts mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, character and to make the world a better place.
