Living The Dream to Commemorate Dr. King’s Life and Legacy
Living the Dream, Richmond’s annual commemoration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. has scheduled a number of community activities for 2012. This year the annual Mass Meeting will be held at a new location, Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 1127 North 28th Street in Richmond, VA on Monday, January 16, at 10 a.m. This free community gathering will feature a play presented by Mike Wiley, Professor of Fine Arts at UNC Chapel Hill, based on the true story of Henry Box Brown, a slave from Louisa County who mailed himself to freedom.
Other Living the Dream activities include:
· A program for Seniors on Wednesday, January 11 at 11 a.m. at Fifth Baptist Church;
· The Dr. Grace Pleasants Memorial Dinner Thursday, January 12, 6:30 p.m. at Cedar Street Baptist Church.
· A breakfast for community leaders on Thursday, January 13, 7:30 a.m. at the Richmond Marriot;
· A prayer service at Sharon Baptist Church on Monday January 16, at 1 p.m
· “Sing Out For Freedom-Pray For Peace,” on Sunday, January 22 at Congregation Beth Ahabah A Youth Leadership Forum, for grades 5-12 at Virginia Union University;
· Two performances of “Generation Dream 2012,” the Richmond Peace Education Center’s youth EduConcert on February 3rd and 4th.
Living the Dream, formerly known as Community Learning Week, is a collaboration of Richmond area congregations and community organizations. The organization is led by Pastor Ricardo Brown of Fifth Baptist Church. Further details about 2012 Living the Dream programs can be found below.
