Governor Robert (Bob) F. McDonnell plans to appeal FEMA’s decision to deny aid to earthquake victims in Virginia. The estimated cost of damage from the 5.8 earthquake in Louisa is $15 million, mostly in uninsured costs. FEMA aid would have provided low-interest loans, unemployment assistance and disaster housing assistance to property owners affected by the 5.8 magnitude earthquake in Louisa County on August 23.

Governor McDonnell said the appeal for federal aid is necessary as volunteer groups and state officials are doing everything they can to bring a since of normalcy to Virginians affected by earthquake 2011.
