Will he succeed? Yes! He will indeed! 98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.

Johnny Depp will play Dr. Seuss in an upcoming biopic, the Hollywood Reporter reports.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star, 48, will also produce the project with Infinitum Nihil partner Christi Dembrowski, Illumination’s Christopher Meledandri and David Kennedy.

Depp’s portrayal of Seuss (real name: Theodor Geisel) isn’t the first legendary figure he’s brought to life on the silver screen; he played the Mad Hatter in Alice and Wonderland, Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie in Finding Neverland, and Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Seuss (whose famous works include The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and Horton Hears a Who) passed away at ate 87 in 1991.

Several film adaptations of his work have been produced, including How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Cat in the Hat.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, an animated adaptation of Seuss’s The Lorax is in post production and expected to open in theaters in March 2012.
