Troy Davis was scheduled to be put to death by lethal injection tonight in the state of Georgia,  Davis’ attorneys had filed a last-ditch appeal, and requested that the Supreme Court look into the case.  Davis was denied clemency yesterday by the Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole, thus ending any speculation that the state was willing to re-open the case despite no DNA evidence linking Davis to the crime. The Supreme Court has now denied Davis a stay of execution, therefore exhausting all of his legal options.  As many as seven of the nine eyewitnesses who helped get Davis convicted have since recanted their testimony, saying they were manipulated by police, and one of the jurors who convicted Davis has come forward to tell the court that had they known what they know now, they never would have voted to convict.  Influential figures from the President to the Pope have asked that the execution be stayed, but as of this moment the State of Georgia is preparing to execute Davis within the hour.
