While he was no household name in the music world, the group he co-founded and performed with since its inception, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, has stood the test of musical time. McKinley Williams, a Philly native, known to die-hard Maze fans as “Bug”, has passed away in Chatanooga, Tennessee, where Maze was to perform this past weekend. He wasn’t just a member of the group, he and Frankie Beverly were like brothers. If you’re a Maze fan, you may have already noticed the faces in the group have changed, but “Bug” was the one familiar face remaining. The group last appeared in Virginia in June at the 2011 Hampton Jazz Festival. Williams died of an apparent heart attack following the group’s practice session prior to the concert. Gonna miss you Bug……..
