U.S. Geological Survey has confirmed that a 5.8 magnitude earthquake shook the region of Virginia Tuesday afternoon. This is the first of its kind in over a century, May 31, 1897.

The 5th aftershock shook near Mineral, Va while you slept Thursday at 1:07 a.m.

The epicenter of Tuesday’s earthquake was in Mineral, VA just 40 miles southeast of Richmond.

Due to structural damages to area schools, homes and buildings signs are posted CLOSED.

School closing:

Louisa County Schools will remain closed due to major structural damages.  Inspectors are still trying to assess all damages to the schools.
