These days, inviting a celebrity to the Marine Corps Ball has practically become as de riguer as combat boots and fatigues.

First, Mila Kunis accepted one Marine’s invite to the ball. Next, Justin Timberlake said yes to another, and then a slew of other stars (Betty White among them!) have been asked to go, as well.

The latest invitee, Scarlett Johansson, had to decline a video invitation from Sgt. Dustin L. Williams for the Nov. 10 ball, but she’s sending a bubbly replacement to accompany him instead.

“Sgt. Williams, unfortunately due to prior commitments I will not be able to attend the Ball with you this year but I am sending you a case of Moët and Chandon with gratitude,” Scarlett Johansson, 26, wrote in a statement.

“I feel incredibly honored,” she continued. “Not only does Sgt. Williams deserve recognition for his bravery, selflessness and dedication to the United States and its people, but also displays a cheeky talent for film making.”

“In my absence, I raise a glass to you and all the men and women of the U.S. Marine Corps, past and present, in thanks for your continued commitment to preserving the safety of our nation. – Scarlett”
