The rapper known as DMX will have to spend at least an extra week in an Arizona state prison for failing a drug test.

DMX (real name Earl Simmons), 40, was sentenced to 1 year in prison in December after his probation was revoked for failing to submit to drug testing and driving on a suspended license. He was credited with 117 days he had already spent behind bars.

An Arizona Department of Corrections spokesman confirmed DMX was due to be released from a prison in Yuma on Wednesday (July 13). His new release date is July 19.

Prison records show he’s also been caught smoking twice and once with drugs since January. He’s been earning 20 cents an hour as a porter.

Last November, DMX told a FOX station that he was just three weeks away from completing an 18-month substance abuse program. But at his concert in Phoenix last fall, he said he took a swig of alcohol that landed him back in jail.

“They let me out. I should have protected myself better,” DMX said at the time.
