R&B singer John Legend is at the center of a song-stealing lawsuit.

An unknown songwriting hopeful, called Anthony Stokes, claims Legend ripped off a song he handed over in a demo.

In a lawsuit, filed earlier this week (July 2011) in New Jersey, Stokes the songwriter reveals he gave the tape to Legend in 2004 after a concert.

Legend reportedly promised to listen to the song but he never got back to Stokes, who forgot all about his Legend-ary meeting until he heard a track called “Maxine’s Interlude” in 2006.

The songwriter (Anthony Stokes) claims the track is a little too similar to his song “Where Are You Now?”, which was on the demo.

Stokes is demanding unspecified damages.
