Ever since Oprah Winfrey announced her retirement from the daily talk show line-up, it seems countless networks are trying to fill the void.
CBS, which had been preparing to announce a new daytime talk show with Katie Couric until Couric jumped to ABC, has a new host for the show that Couric didn’t want — Jeff Probst, best known for his hosting duties for CBS’s Survivor .
Probst is not unfamiliar with daytime talk show hosting, having previously filled in for Regis Philbin on Live! with Regis & Kelly .
In a statement, programming president Aaron Meyerson hinted that Probst may attempt to steer the talk show into uncharted waters. “With the same adventure Jeff approaches his own life, the show will take the same path,” he said. “The show will cover a range of topics from relationships to human interest. And like Jeff, the show will encourage action, change and discovery.”
