After spending the morning visiting with South Africa’s first black (former) President, Nelson Mandela, and his wife, Graca Machel, the Obama ladies continued their summer trip hanging-out with the kids.

First Lady Michelle Obama, along with daughters Sasha and Malia, partake in their diplomatic efforts by visiting the Mandelas’ home, before spending the rest of the afternoon with the children of a nearby shantytown at Emthonjeni Community Center.

Mrs. Obama changed into her casual denim look from J.Crew–complete with a printed top from ASOS Africa.

According to the White House, the top from ASOS Africa is from a collection that has been designed, sourced and produced by community groups in Africa. The collection is produced in Kenya to support the work of SOKO, a workshop dedicated to developing sustainable and long term solutions to economic challenges in Kenyan communities. Part of the money goes to philanthropy.

Sasha and Malia read “Cat & The Hat” and sang songs with the 25 kids, just as their mom (Michelle) had read it to them when they were kids. Michelle Obama’s mom, Grandma Marian, was also on hand to enjoy the children of Africa.

They also stopped by the Apartheid Museum where Mrs. Obama snapped a picture with 75 young women selected by the State Department, who are participating in an inspirational women’s forum with her tomorrow.
