The childhood obesity rates are high in Virginia.  A bill was introduced in the General Assembly to activate 150 minutes of physical education a week.  Opponents to the bill said it would cost local districts millions of dollars and take away from other instructional programs.

Governor Bob McDonnell is a proponent of exercise but agreed that the local districts just could not afford it as we look ahead to 2014.   Governor Bob McDonnell has vetoed the “Physical Education” bill that would have required elementary and middle schools to take 150 minutes a week of physical education.
