The Group AAA State basketball semifinals are on for tonight at VCU’s Siegal Center, featuring locals L C Bird & Highland Springs both hoping for a rematch in the championship game. The Springers are led by Jarvis Threatt, son of Jay Threatt, who led Petersburg HS to the same tournament in ’78 & ’79. Jay, a smooth point guard in his day, also has a son, Jay Jr., who is currently leading his Delaware State team into the MEAC, which opened yesterday in Winston-Salem, NC. Jay Sr. played with NBA great Mark West at PHS while older brother Tony started alongside Moses Malone before playing 4 years at Hampton University. Jarvis won this year’s Colonial District Player Of The Year, so that Threatt legacy carries on in 2011. Good luck to both teams tonight!
