There are many trends that capture the attention of teens and adults. However, there is one that seems to have just about everyone looking and latching on. Tattoos, they are everywhere, and have been seen on just about every one of your friends. But, what exactly is a tattoo much? When does body ink becomes just that, a “tat” too much?

Popular celebrities like Lil Wayne, Soldier Boy, Rihanna, and Kat Von D are literally tattooed from head to toe, showing signs of a possible addiction. Many believe that too many tattoos can cause quite a few regrets. Just ask rapper/actor 50 Cent who is currently in the process of getting many of his mistakes removed.

If professionally done, this defacing of the skin can cost just as much pain to your pocket as it does your body. Even worst, cost you the opportunity for employment in many different professional fields. Choosing an appropriate design, a descent size, and proper placement are among the first things people should consider when getting a tattoo. Anyone would agree that is important to “Think before you Ink”. Seriously, how hot will that Tweety Bird tattoo you got back in high school with your name beneath it look on your arm 20 years from now? Or do you really expect to get a decent job with your body covered from neck down in pictures, nicknames, or quotes in a foreign language you don’t even speak?

According to The American Society of Dermatological surgery, over 50% of everyone receiving a tattoo wants it removed. I’m sure you heard the story of the young Belgian girl who claimed to have fallen asleep and awoke to 56 stars tattooed on the left side of her face. Her regret kicked in as soon as she looked in the mirror and realized what she had done was a “tat”-too much. Her story isn’t the first regret of too many tattoos and surely won’t be the last.

When it comes to tattooing, there are some people who are one hitter quitters, and then there are others who feel the more the merrier. Either way, there is no right or wrong approach. If tattooing is your thing then there is no such thing as too many or a “tat”-too much. However, there are a few things you should keep in mind the next time feed you obsession by going under the needle.

  • You will eventually get older, and your lifestyle, body and personality may change.

  • The more you have the greater possibility of you receiving negative attention and judgment.

  • Be aware that there is major risk. Allergic reactions, keloid scars, Bacterial infections, and blood diseases such as Hepatitis B &C, tetanus, tuberculosis, and HIV.

  • Visible tattoos, especially on your face, neck, and hands could possibly hinder you from receiving possible employment in a professional workplace.

With all this in mind, the next time you consider getting your next tattoo ask yourself, Am I doing a “tat”-too much? As stated in English Proverbs, “Too much of anything is good for nothing.”
