A resolution was introduced at Monday night’s Richmond city council meeting calling for the removal of Confederate statues. It was a packed house last night. People held signs that read “Take’em down now” and people speaking about tearing down racists symbols dominated the meeting. But not everyone spoke about monuments as others said that city leaders should focus more attention on education, rising crime statistics and widespread poverty in the city. However, a committee will review Councilman Mike Jones’ proposal and decide whether to recommend council take any action. Councilman Jones represents the 9th Voter District in Richmond City Council.
