A homicide suspect, Jataynum Fleming was fatally shot by officers after a standoff last night in South Richmond. Fleming told police during a 4 hour stand-off that the situation would probably end with gunshots.
“Upon making contact with Mr. Fleming initially, he stated to us ‘You’re going to have to shoot this out with me,'” said Richmond Police Chief Bryan Norwood.
Police tried to get Fleming to surrender by shooting tear gas in his residence, but to no avail. Fleming then approached police in a combative manner which forced them to take lethal measures. The two police involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave.
