Is there an old relationship that is holding you back? Are you stuck in the past thinking about the what-if’s and wondering why your ex doesn’t bother to pick up when you call? It’s OK because whether you believe it or not, you’re not alone. Many people suffer from what I like to call Post Traumatic-Ex Syndrome. You’re stuck waiting by the phone that isn’t ringing anytime soon. Here are a few pointers that should kick that ex’s grasp on your heart and get you back in the game in no time.

Own your actions – you can take control.

To move on, sometimes you need to cut off all forms of contact. This can be very difficult when you’re used to spending every waking second with your ex, but it’s crucial during the healing process. Getting your mind adjusted to not having someone around is the first step to moving on. If your still calling your ex then chances are you won’t get over them.

Stop focusing on your problems, and what you can’t do.

When you’re always telling yourself or your friends they can’t talk about your ex, or that you can’t get over them, you’re already digging yourself into a deeper hole. Focus on the things you can do, like meet new people, or treat yourself to dinner and a movie. The more things you convince yourself you can do alone, the better you’ll feel about yourself and your situation.

Keep your long-term life goals in mind.

Everyone should have their own goals in life. Do you remember what yours were before you got caught up in your ex’s life? If so bring them back to the forefront. Goals will keep you motivated and busy. More time for yourself means more time for your successes. Push through the emotions and concentrate on your goals, you will see an immediate change in your life.
