Victor Lemonte Wooten is flat out the best guitarist you’ve never heard of. Not to mention he’s also a composer, arranger, lecturer, producer, and vocalist. This accomplished bass player has won five Grammy Awards, has received  Bass Player Magazine’s “Bass Player of The Year” three times in a row, and has recorded six solo albums in little under 10 years.

Born September 11, 1964, in Hampton, Virginia, Wooten is the youngest of an extremely talented group of siblings; all of whom are skilled musicians.   At the age of two, Victor began taking bass lessons from his older brother Regi and by six he was playing in front of crowds with the family band. Before their teenage years, The Wooten Brothers Band, which consisted of Regi, Roy, Rudi, Joesph, and Victor, performed as the opening act for soul legend Curtis Mayfield.

Victor was influenced by many famous bass players including Stanley Clarke, Larry Graham and Bootsy Collins, but says his family is the biggest influence in his life.

“In music and in life, my parents and brothers were the foundation. They prepared me for life by giving and teaching me love and honesty. They also taught me to keep my mind open and learn to adapt to life’s ever-changing circumstances. Their guidance has helped me stay grounded today.”
