Regina Hall says she had to stop short of reciting a Whitney Houston joke for her Showtime series Black Monday. During a comedy actress roundtable done by the Hollywood Reporter, Hall said, “There was a joke…I think about drugs and it was about Whitney Houston. And I was like, I don’t want to say that. Artists give so much and so to make fun of what was a challenge and an illness [didn’t feel right.]”
Hall said the writers for Black Monday respected her feedback and wrote another line. Whitney Houston died of an overdose in 2012.
Do you think comedians will start being more aware of jokes that hurt or is it a part of their craft to make fun of anything?
