Birth rates in the US usually go up and down, depending on the economy, so it’s no surprise that in 2008 the birth rates went down. However, the number was expected to rise by now and that’s not happening. In fact, birth rates in this country are the lowest they’ve been in 30 years.

So what’s happening? Millennials. Women in their 40’s are the only age group with higher birth rates than the year before. Teens and women in their 20’s and 30’s just aren’t getting pregnant as much as they used to.

Millenials are experiencing some major social change. Women are now waiting longer to get married, they’re getting a higher education, and they’re becoming the household breadwinners. Gone are the days where women feel like their number one purpose is to start a family of their own.

This current generation is close to not having enough kids to be able to replace itself. Is this a problem? Will social change become devastating to the population? What does the future of America look like?
