Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has been discharged from the hospital.Tutu was admitted late this summer for intravenous treatment for an infection. He had been hospitalized on several occasions since July this year for treatment not related to his long battle with prostate cancer.
His daughter, the Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu, said her father wished to say a special thank you to the hospital staff who had cared for him, and his wonderfully talented and generous medical team. He appreciated and sincerely received the love, prayers and good wishes expressed by people around the world had been just as important as the medical attention in aiding the recovery.
With his return home he has turned his concerns to the refugee crisis by pleading with us to embrace them.
Here is what he has said:
“We witness their suffering in the daily news, and some of us feel deeply moved by their plight. But our compassion isn’t sufficiently developed to regard their plight as our plight,To view them as equals . to open our hearts and our doors, and share our bread.”
We pray that he continues his speedy recovery.
