Sisters are doing it for themselves!

No, really.

The advances in technology have allowed for the young and ambitious to develop their own brands online and that’s exactly what Andrea Lewis has done on YouTube. The actress (who starred as Hazel Aden in “Degrassi”) has created her own web series called “Black Actress” as a means to not only continue working on her acting chops, but also create her own masterpiece instead of waiting for Hollywood to create something for her.

The amazing show follows Andrea’s character, Kori Bailey as she auditions, falls in love and fails in both and it’s one of the most refreshing YouTube series you’ll ever watch. Each episode boasts an established Black actress, who gives acting advice and tips to Andrea and her viewers and the show itself is nothing short of entertaining.

We caught up with this beautifully inspiring actress turned producer and because of the recent “Ethnic Casting” faux pas catalyzed by Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva, Andrea was fired up and had a lot to say about Black women’s impact in Hollywood. She’s glad that Black women are currently the “trend,” but is hoping that we’re so much more, because we are. Check out what Andrea had to say about being a Black actress and how she’s created a lane all her own.
