He talked about meaning behind the album name, but also shared insight on the message he wanted to put out with his sophomore release. In the interview Lamar mentioned the purpose of his song, “Complexion” and says he’s trying to tackle the “color” issues we have in the Black community.

Light-skinned, dark-skinned. We’re [going to] get that colorism out the game, which is why I put out the record ‘Complexions.’ Just be a good person and have some integrity, and be you. Have love for people and love for God and a love of things.

Lamar also shared the best advice he ever got from Dr. Dre, and how it’s kept him on top of his game. “Everybody can have everything if you work for it,” he said. “But for the most part how it gets [taken] from you is that hunger, [and] lose that drive to keep it. That’s the hardest thing for any artist. You think it’s going to always be there.” He always told me to stay on it, to stay hungry, and stay grinding for it, because you don’t know when your last meal will come.
