Thousands of West Virginia citizens are dealing with a major health crises with their water today with warnings that they can’t drink it, cook with it, brush teeth nor take showers in it.

These stern warnings  are the result of a major chemical spill in the Elk River in the central and southwestern parts of the state. Officials are advising anyone feeling anything out of the ordinary to seek help immediately.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin declared a state of emergency in 9 counties including Boone, Cabell, Clay, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Putnam and Roane counties.

“Right now, our priorities are our hospitals, nursing homes and schools,” the governor said. “I’ve been working with our National Guard and Office of Emergency Services in an effort to provide water and supplies through the county emergency services offices as quickly as possible.”
