The Virginia State University Trojans are back, and apparently are ready to make a run to Durham in the late fall.  The Trojans are now 3 – 1 on the season, the first under Latrell Scott, and have won two straight as they hit the road now for two weeks before returning to the Hill for Homecoming 2013 on October 19th against the Bulldogs of Bowie State University.  VSU will take off for Durham on Saturday for a date with the Bears of Shaw University, and play at Emizabeth City State next weekend……

The Panthers of Virginia Union University are finding their season going in the opposite direction aa they are winless after 4 tries.  Certainly, VUU was clearly overmatched by Winston-Salem last weekend, a team that has won the CIAA three times since returning from Division 1.  Union now hits the road hoping for a brighter day with their next outing this weekend at Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina…..

The Spiders of Richmond welcomed the Black Bears of Maine to the West End last weekend, unfortunately for the Spiders, Maine escaped with a 28 – 21 CAA win.  The loss leaves Richmond at 2 – 3 with another huge game on the road in Harrisonburg against highly ranked James Madison this Saturday afternoon.

Tough times in the MEAC for the V-A representatives as both Norfolk State and Hampton University went into the weekend winless with road games on the horizon.  For the Spartans, they came away from Morgan State with a 27 – 21 MEAC win and return to Tidewater to face Savannah State on Saturday.  Hampton lost again at South Carolina State, where the Bulldogs are always scrappy, even when they’re not contenders.  The Pirates will rest up this weekend before hosting the Aggies of North Carolina A & T next weekend.

The Hokies of Virginia Tech haven’t been winning pretty, but they’ve been winning, and aside from the season-opening loss to No. 1 Alabama, Tech has played great football.  The Hokies are now 4 – 1 and could creep into the national polls if the trend continues Saturday in Blacksburg when the Tar Heels of North Carolina visit Lane Stadium.  Meanwhile, Mike London’s Virginia Cavaliers continue to struggle, losing at Pittsburgh last weekend.  The Wahoos get set for a home game with Ball State this weekend before a trip to currently undefeated Maryland.
