Week One of the 2013 NFL season got off to a rousing start…..and finish.  The Philadelphia Eagles not only shocked the fans but stunned the Washington Washington Football Team as well.  Here they were at home in DC, their superstar QB returming, the stadium was energized, the atmosphere was electric, and when Robert Griffin III led the team out of the locker room, you had to believe this night was tailor-made for the Washington Football Team to get a victory.  NOT.  These are not your grandfather’s Eagles.  This Chip Kelly edition with Michael Vick at the helm simply shut the Nation’s Capital down in a 33 – 27 victory at Fed Ex Field.

Griffin looked like a deer in headlights throughout the first half, settled a bit after halftime when Philly called off the dogs, and despite what appeared to be a slight comeback, the truth is, the game was over at the break.  The Eagles not only showed-up, but showed-out as Vick turned in a masterful performance & spoiling RG – 3’s welcome back party.  For the Washington Football Team, things get no easier with a date this Sunday at Green Bay, where Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are still steaming from letting the 49ers escape this past Sunday.

Elsewhere in the NFC East, The Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants both did everything they could to “give” the game to each other, and until the final two minutes, no one wanted the win.  Finally, the Boyz stepped up and seized the 36 – 31 victory to lead the division temporarily.  Richmond’s Russell Wilson led Seattle to a win at Carolina, a rare season-opening loss at home for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who “Remember The Titans” today.  Atlanta is expecting a big year but it’s off to a rocky start after the New Orleans Saints grounded the Falcons Sunday in the Big Easy.

Among Sunday’s other winners were the Detroit Lions, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Miami Dolphins, the Chicago Bears, and the New York Jets, under the direction of rookie QB Geno Smith, who beat the Tampa Bay Bucaneers.  In games involving contenders, the 49ers defeat Green Bay and New England won a tough one at Buffalo.  Teams on the rise like the St. Louis Rams and the Detroit Lions got a boost with big division wins on Sunday.  Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson did his thing, but it was the Lions who had the last  roar in this one.
