Green paint was found on the Lincoln Memorial Friday morning. Now, that memorial has been closed until further notice.
A visitor found paint splattered on the statue and on the floor around it just before 1:30 a.m. No words or symbols were written on the statue.
The U.S. Park Police stated that the monument will reopen once the National Park Service cleans the statue. There’s no estimate on how long that will take, but maintenance crews are supposed to arrive Friday morning.
Surveillance cameras are located on either corner of the monument, but there’s no report on whether or not they caught footage of the vandal.
