KISS – FM and Radio – One salutes the late great Arthur Ashe, Jr on this date, Wednesday, July 10th, 2013, which marks what would have been Arthur’s 70th Birthday. The Richmond native, whose story is well known around the sports world as he beat the streets of RVA to go on to legendary achievements in the world of professional tennis.

While a student at UCLA, Arthur Ashe, Jr., became the first African-American player named to the prestigious Davis Cup Tennis team representing the United States. Ashe also went on to win three Grand Slam titles in his career, including the U. S. Open and Wimbledon. His statue continues to stand tall along Historic Monument Avenue here in the Capital City.
